Looking for a special way to spend an evening? Come hear Verity member Fathia Atallah sing at the Sorrento Hotel on April 16th!
One of my goals as a Verity Voice is to help create a community feel at the Wallingford Branch (and across all the branches at Verity). One of the ways I hope to do this is by writing about what some of our members are up to and how you can meet, interact with and build community with other Verity members.
At least once a week the Wallingford Branch is gifted with a visit from Jazz Singer, Fathia Atallah, who practically pirouettes into the branch with a spring in her step and a song in her heart.
Originally from Toulouse, France, Fathia performed in Europe for more than 10 years before moving to the United States. From 1998 to 2003 she was director of Le Centre Francais Artistique et Culturel de Seattle and produced “French Cabaret on Broadway,” a musical revue.
Fathia is currently heading up a number of projects in and around Seattle including:
The Wallingford Big Band Orchestra (WBBO) – Founded by Fathia, the WBBO offers a refreshing menu of Jazz vocals and Jazz standards in English and French for celebrations, parties, dances, weddings and neighborhood events.
Les Troubadours – Performing French Gypsy music, uplifting songs with guitar, violin, hand-drum and other instruments, they create a refreshing and magical ambiance as genuine as a voyage to France.
Jazz Renouveau – In this incarnation, Fathia performs American Jazz standards of the ‘30s and ‘40s, including beautiful tunes that were sung by Billie Holliday, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Josephine Baker, Diana Krall and more.
Fathia can currently be seen performing twice monthly in the Fireside Room at the Sorrento Hotel – her next performance is on April 16th at 7:30pm – as well as at other venues in and around the Seattle area. This is a wonderful way to spend an evening, whether on a date or getting together with a group of friends.
