I tried to think of something financial services related. Instead, all I could think of was personal events.
On a recent vacation in Idaho my husband broke both knees. Not one, but two. The first response is usually is, “Ouch!” The next response is usually, “How?” At least, that was the order of the ER docs during both trips. The first one happened stepping off the porch and missing the bottom step at 1am while taking pictures of a lightning storm. Pictures that we didn’t even get to enjoy because the lens cap was on! At least with the pictures maybe we would have entered and won a grand prize at the Evergreen State Fair!
The next morning we drove an hour away over Galina Summit to the ER and ended up talking to the Ortho Surgeon. We confirmed that the Patella Tendon was broke (obvious by his knee placement at mid-thigh) and he needed surgery. Little did we know this was only the beginning of bad news this week.
Fast forward two days. I decided to get him out of the house and go to the lake. Walking across the parking lot he fell after hitting an uneven piece of ground. After three Good Samaritans helped him into a chair we realized that the same thing happened on the second knee. It took us a few minutes to regroup before we started the trip back to the Sun Valley, ID. Interestingly enough when in the ER the same surgeon was there on another consult. He was dumbfounded to see us! It was either him or the ER doctor that told me to buy a lottery ticket because our luck had to change.
So, the next day we drove home with two new knee braces and a newly purchased wheelchair. The following week we met with the surgeon at home and had surgery the following day. Follow that up with 2 weeks in the Rehabilitation center. We are now 3 weeks post-surgery and Lego Man is still straight legged in the wheelchair with no weight bearing allowed.
My daughter says that daddy sits in the chair just like her Legos would. Leave it to a 6 year old to find humor in the situation and make us smile!
Hello! I’m Le Ann Langston and I’m the Director of Member Services Northgate for Verity Credit Union. Member Service Manager is another name for the call center manager. Talking on the phone was a hobby of mine as a teenager and now I have made a career of it. If only I had a cool headset when I was 13! In my spare time I enjoy yoga, writing and reading just about anything. I am slightly addicted to TV and am currently hooked on a number of shows. Given this list of indoor pursuits you may find it hard to believe that I enjoy traveling to new places. Most people would never know that at one point I almost moved to London just for a change of pace.
