Verity has a history of giving back to the community. However, in 2015 we decided that we wanted to take it to the next level. We wanted to be celebrated as a community partner. We wanted to be known as a place that is actively involved in making the areas in which we live and work vibrant and healthy. We even added a line to our mission statement stating that “we will promote strong and viable communities.”
At the beginning of the year we decided that one thing we would do is dedicate a day where all our staff volunteers. On this day our doors would be closed so we could unleash the energy and enthusiasm of our employees on a community project. We decided that October 12th would be our day of volunteering. Now we just needed to find a place to volunteer. Easy, right?
Well it was much harder than we thought. Not a lot of places can accommodate over 100 employees. We had some dedicated individuals that spent numerous hours talking to a variety of non-profit organizations. Then we were connected with Volunteers of America and the Greenwood Food Bank. It was the perfect fit. If you haven’t heard about all the amazing work they are doing check out this link.
So on October 12th we had our first all staff volunteer day. It was a day of hard work but high spirits. It was inspiring to see how energized everyone was to give back. Overall it further connected our staff to each other and to the Greenwood community. Plus it was a lot of fun.
We can’t wait till our next all staff volunteer day in 2016! If you know of any organizations that could use our assistance please let us know by commenting on this post.
