Why am I writing about International Credit Union Day?

The answer is quite simple: This is the final project for my Verity Credit Union University Degree. Verity University “was established to create a forum to educate and empower employees by providing exceptional professional development opportunities.” Through the University, Verity staff members grow professionally and are able to provide better service to our members.

I did a lot of research about International Credit Union Day and learned a lot about credit unions and their history.

For example, did you know:

  1. The first Credit Union was established in Germany in 1865 by Franz Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch and Friedrich Wilhelm Raifeisen?
  2. The first Credit Union Day was in 1927 and it was chosen because it was the birthday of America’s “Apostle of Thrift,” Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)?
  3. The National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) was established in 1967 to protect the Federal Credit Unions’ interests in the nation’s capital?

Personally, I am glad to see how strong we are and how greatly we are feared by banks. And, what benefits! What great member service we give—the proof of which is listed below. I found some great testimonials from members.

My husband and I will look to Verity for anything we do in the future, including a home loan.”

    I’ve really appreciated all of the help I have received from the loan specialist department (especially Regine & Pam). They both have been so awesome helping me deal with my financial challenges since my seperation with my husband and very understanding and encouraging to me. Their helpfullness, friendly, and understanding has been a HUGE help to me during this hard time. Thanks so much for being such a great bank!

    Regine has left for other opportunities. This is sad for us, but happy for her. Her new job is great and we miss her.

    Regine had been a blessing for us. She helped us to get through our tough time for many months with patience and integrity. She was always there for us and I am sure also for other people. My husband Adam has this philosophy: There is always better money, better benefits, better everything somewhere else right? Not always. The truth is great employees aren’t willing to give up their culture, their camaraderie, and their flexibility for $50 more dollars a week and we are almost positive that Regine did not leave for that reason. Whatever the reason was, we miss her and we want her back. She was a jewel, had a heart and genuinely cared. What a loss and her shoes are impossible to fill. We deal with other collectors and we are not happy, sadly to say. Is there a chance to get her back at all?
