Photo of Summer Gas Prices – Drive Happy

Are you one of those people who will drive around to find the lowest possible gas price before filling up your tank? I used to care a lot about gas prices, but then I sat to think about it and started to wonder, does that 5 or 10 cents a gallon really make a difference?

I recently discovered this handy calculator that lets you input the data to see how much you really save by traveling for gas. If I drive an additional 4 miles to the station where it is $3.89 instead of $4.00 per gallon, I will save $1.01 for my car that has a 15 gallon tank and gets about 25 miles per gallon. The important point here: I will only save $1.00 for searching and scanning for a lower price.

I don’t know about you, but that falls into the “completely not worth it” category for me.

So, how can you save money on your car this month? Switch to a Drive Happy loan with Verity. We will beat your current rate by 100 basis points (usually 1%) and you get no payments for 90 days. (Disclaimer, check the Drive Happy link to get all the details and see what this loan will mean for you.) Let’s say you have a $400 car payment, at 6% interest somewhere else. When you save 1% your monthly payment will go down by at least a couple bucks a month (so you don’t have to think about trying to drive an extra 15 minutes looking for the cheapest gas station), which will save valuable mental energy. And, not having that $400 payment for the next 90 days means huge summer savings.

An easy way to save money this summer falls into my “totally worth it” category.
